Diet Secret is Out!

Ezine Articles has a variety of articles in its Health and Fitness category, including one on popular diets. I liked the following aside from site owner Christ Knight in his recent newsletter:

Want to know the Chris Knight diet secret? Eat good foods as much as you want as long as you end the day in a caloric deficit; meaning, burn more calories than you consume. Losing weight and looking great on the beach becomes a simple math problem. :-)

All is Quiet

It’s been pretty quiet lately here on the Body Challenge blog since there’s not an “official” challenge going on right now.

And as for me your humble blog leader, I have been tres busy! Work, work, work and then a nice vacation. Now I’m resting up from getting that knee fixed. Turned out it was an osteochondroma, or in simple English a big piece of bone sticking out from the leg bone. It was near the knee that is why I kept injuring my knee. Now I’m all better… recovering at least and when I am able to workout again I’ll be ready, full steam ahead!

Cheese and Crackers - A Perfectly Healthy Snack

Dr. Kracker was one of the other great exhibitors at the BPW conference. There were lots of great free samples provided for all of the attendees. At first bite I was a bit surprised that the crackers were rather dry and dense compared to the usual saltines or buttery type crackers. But after a few chips they really grow on you!

I purchased three 8 oz. tubs - one each of Cheese Pumpkin, Klassic Three Seed and Spelt Muesli. The Cheese Pumpkin which has pumpkin seeds is my favorite. The Muesli has dried fruits and is good for breakfast.

The Cheese Pumpkin and the Klassic Three Seed go great with Laughing Cow light cheese for a healthy snack. Yes, very healthy! Laughing cow is just 35 calories per wedge and Dr. Kracker brand snacks are all high in fiber and low fat. These crackers are also made with organic, whole grains and no trans fats.

Dr. Kracker is available at Whole Foods Market and online at Amazon . I’m going to have to stock up again myself — I took two tubs to a party and came home empty handed!

Body Challenge on the Road

In the past few weeks I’ve been on the road quite a bit. Keeping up with a healthy lifestyle can be difficult when you’ve been on a plane all day and arrive at your destination tired and starving!

The diet experts tell you that when traveling it’s important to plan ahead. I totally agree! I always bring my own healthy snacks. It’s also just easier a lot of times to have a granola bar for breakfast instead of trying to find a cafe.

My first trip was to Orlando for Affiliate Summit. It was a lot of fun and I met a lot of cool people — including Teli, the newest Body Challenger. Now she planned ahead, bringing her athletic shoes. Well at least they came in handy when we walked around Downtown Disney a dozen times!

Sandra at Affiliate SummitThere wasn’t much time for a workout during the conference, even if I had had the a) the desire or b) energy! As you can see from this photo by Tuesday afternoon I was pretty wiped out.

I always pack as light as possible so I don’t have to check bags on a plane if possible, so I didn’t bring workout clothes or shoes. But a swimsuit doesn’t take up much room! I stayed an extra day after the seminar was over so I had time to swim. Yes, laps really!

The next week I was off again to Dallas to exhibit at the National conference for Business & Professional Women, an organization that I am a member of locally. At this conference I also met some outstanding people, including Becky who has a blog about small business in rural areas and small towns. I did a little shopping with the other exhibitors finding some beautiful jewelry from pearl experts Fox Lane.

Since I was driving I was not nearly concerned about packing light. Stragely enough I brought 3 pair of shoes and not one of them were running shoes. I can’t say I’m perfect on my diet and exercise while traveling nor do I try to be. I just prepare ahead for those special treat meals by eating less at other times (like the granola bars for breakfast) and try to get in a little exercise.

Let Me Introduce Myself

Hello Body Challengers!

It’s been quite some time since I signed up with Body Challenge, but life has truly kept me busy. Finally, though, I’m able to stop in and make a quick introduction.

This is Teli Adlam from the Teli Design Studio. I can usually be found hanging around the TIID, SSWT, and various other forums (which is probably the reason I need to participate in the Body Challenge).

Once upon a time, I tried the diet thing, but it never really took off (though I did drop a dress size since I began). Life kidnapped me. That’s the only excuse I can come up with. But, this time around, I truly am determined to get back down to my desired weight.

Over the course of the previous two years, I’ve put on about 20 pounds and it’s high time they come off.

My plan for this body challenge is to use the Turbo Jam method along with proper diet. (Gosh, it sounds a lot more difficult when I say it out loud!) The choice was made when I realized it would be an easy transition for me because most of the moves consist of dance techniques and some martial arts, two things I’ve enjoyed doing for nearly two years.

I want to thank everyone who visits and sends in their well-wishes because it helps. The motivation, the support, the good will, it all helps…a lot.

Here’s to a successful body challenge!

6 FRIGGIN’ MONTHS - The Results!

What a ride!
But what a GREAT experience!
It has, quiet simply, been life changing!

This week — as far as I can recall — I’m down to the lightest weight I’ve been in about 4 years. Yeah baby, yeah! ;-)

Finding out that my body is “incompatible” with that EVIL white stuff… *MILK*… has also been life changing. Other than the fact that weigh is falling off me, my severe hayfever has “almost” disappeared. It’s absolutely increasable.

Weight loss to date: 6.20 KGs (13.64 lbs)…

Inspiring Success Story!

I think it’s pretty obvious who the winner of Body Challenge 2 is… Andre Chaperon of course:

It’s been 2 weeks short of 6 MONTHS of doing exercise 4-5 times per week. The outcome is that I’ve lost 11.44 lbs of weight, and a LOT of inches.

Andre tackled the challenge of getting fit head on, even doing military fitness training and intense weight and cardio routines. I know I’m inspired by the dedication Andre has displayed. Congratuations on your accomplishment!

Mid Summer Progress

It’s July 4th holiday so I finally have time to write a progress report. At the end of BC2 the scale read the same as three months ago.  On the positive side I’m still 10 pounds lighter than this time last year. I had to give away most of my summer clothes from last year as they were all too baggy.

My biggest obstacle has been the knee injury. I was exercising 5 times a week before that, getting stronger and fitter. Since then I’ve been to yoga class a few times, but that is about it. I really do want to try swimming, but I guess it’s just hard to get back to the gym at all after getting out of the habit.

I suppose that is the name of the game… getting back in the habit. As a healthy lifestyle is a lifelong journey, I know that’s all I can do. Just make the best choices possible each day and when I do “fall off the wagon” just get back on!

24 Weeks Later and 11.44 Pounds Lighter

It’s been 2 weeks short of 6 MONTHS of doing exercise 4-5 times per week. The outcome is that I’ve lost 11.44 lbs of weight, and a LOT of inches.

I missed my goal by 2.64 lbs, but I’m still way happy cos I have now cracked the consistency barrier. I now find it easy to go to gym. I look forward to continuing to go to gym at the same rate of at least 4 times per week, for the rest of the year.

Who know what my weight we be then… maybe finally 75 KGs, maybe 72, who know… and I don’t really care. I enjoy the entire exercise experience now, and how it makes me, the body and mind feel.

BTW: My two biggest weight loss weeks have been the past two. As mentioned here — and I can now pretty much confirm with certainty — that the weight loss this past two weeks has down to a little diet “tweak”…

Long story short, I believe my body has an intolerance to diary products. When I was a baby (few month old kind of age) I was even allergic to cows milk. I eventually grew out of it and, so it seemed, could have milk without any “visible” reactions.

Some 30 odd years later — two weeks ago — I decided to re-visit the fact that I used to be allergic to milk, and that I may, just may… still have an intolerance to diary products.

This all came about when a friend told me that he believes he has an intolerance to diary. He told me is symptoms… and HEY, I HAD THEM TOO! That’s when I decided to “test this out”…

I’ve now been diary-free for just over two weeks. The weight is falling off, so to speak, and these “symptoms” I had grown used to have all but disappeared.

I haven’t had this verified by a doctor, but I’m pretty sure of what I’m seeing and certainly feeling. Go figure, eh? ;-)

Thanks Sandra for challenging me and creating this cool (and powerful) site! ;-)

I Love Mondays

This Monday I can’t report that I made much progress on my challenge goal, in fact I’ve gained a couple of pounds lately. But what I love about Mondays is that you get a clean slate to start over. I’m finally getting to where I can exercise again too. So my plan for the last week of the challenge is to eat sensibly and get back to the gym at least 3 times. Should be a piece of cake.
