Spinning?

Okay, I figured if Andre could do it so could I! Spinning that is. So today I headed out early for yoga at 8:30 followed by spinning.  This was the first time I’d ever tried this type of class and it was really intense!  I was sweating buckets there by the end.

Actually it took about the first 20 minutes just to get comfortable on the bike and figure out the adjustments.  (There’s a knob you turn to increase or decrease the resistance to simulate hills.)  It was definitely a good workout, but not as fun as the kickboxing.  You’re just sitting (or standing) on a bike the whole time and it can get kind of monotonous.  I’ll probably go back but not on a regular basis, just occassionally to mix up my workouts.

If I Could Only Highkick Again

Yesterday in Kickboxing class we did 10 full minutes of kicks! I laughed to myself a bit because it reminded me of when I was in drill team in high school. Only nowdays my kicks only go a little higher than my waist instead of by my ear. Oh, and I don’t recall ever doing any back kicks in any drill team routines. LOL.

I Needed a Push!

Starting Date - 4/06/06

This challenge is the perfect motivator.  My goal is to enhance my health.  I intend to lose some weight and exercise more.  I spend a lot of time on the computer and all this sitting is not good!  I will up my intake of fruits, veggies, and whole grains.   Meanwhile cut the white carbs.

I used to do yoga regularly.  My practice has slipped.  My intention is to participate in at least one class weekly and do at least a little on my own daily.

Severe Overweight

Ok, this one was really an eyeopener.

I went to FitDay, which I found on the resource page and set up an account.

There’s a tab called “Weight” which will show you if you have a Healthy Weight, Moderate Overweight or Severe Overweight.

Well, I knew that I was overweight, but to see it graphed like this really shocked me.

Yup, that’s right - I’m the blue dot :-(

Severe overweight

After seing this there’s no way I can fail at reaching my goal for these 12 weeks.

I’m hoping to see the doctor tomorrow.

I really hate medicine, but I’m hoping that he can give me something that will relax the muscles in my back, so they can get some rest. These backpains has kept me home from work for two days now, and has given me a sore shoulder as well because I’m only able to sleep in one position.

Timing Is Great

I have to lose weight by the end of June because my daughter gets married on 14th July and I don’t want to see myself on photos looking as I do now. So this challenge is just perfect timing for me. I am finding it really hard to stick to my plan long enough- everywhere I go I am offered food or drink. The drink is the hardest! Have lost 6 kg since November. I weigh 88.6kg today and I need to lose at least 10 kg (22 lbs)by July. If I can lose 1 kg a week that still allows for some lapses! I am doing the Jenny Craig diet and its not bad at all. Exercise- I have started doing some biking round the coast roads where I live. Its gorgeous don’t know why I didn’t start a long time ago. Also using an exercise DVD. (Not often enough)

Best of luck to all of you.

BC 2 Goals - Fat B Gone

For Body Challenge 2 I want to reach my original weight target at 125 pounds. So this means I have 17.5 to go, or 1.5 per week. Now this is manageable!

I’m really hitting the gym hard with intense aerobic classes and weight training. To stay challenged I’ll mix it up occassionally with new classes and even some hiking now that the weather is nice.

Today I went to pilates for the first time and wow, that was a challenge. It is a great core stregthening routine that is a step up from my usual yoga practice. Some of the moves are the same as yoga but then you take it to the next level, adding new moves or weights. Troy and I also played raquetball this evening which was also fun. He barely beat me 2 out of 3 but I gave him a run for his money!

Starting at 102.6 kg (226.1 lbs) - ending at 90 kg (198.4 lbs)

Hi Sandra,

Thanks for doing this again - I’ve followed you all silently from the sidelines during the initial 12 weeks, and now I’m joining you for the next 12.

With a start weight of 102.6 kg (226.1 lbs) I figured that I would set the goal of loosing 1 kg (2.2 lbs) per week.

So by June 24 I will weigh 90 kg (198.4 lbs).

Stepping unto the scale yesterday morning revealed the unpleasant, but hardly surprising fact that I had passed 100 kg - I had gone from a 2 digit readout to 3 digits :-(

But this is all about to change.

Three weeks from now I’m back below the magic 100 kg threshold - and at the end of the 12 weeks I will have lost 12.6 kg (27.8 lbs) alltogether.

First step is a radical change in diet.

Out with

  • Sugar
  • Artificial sweeteners
  • Candy, snacks, cakes
  • Coffee
  • Diary products

In with

  • Water - lots of it
  • Vegetables
  • Fruit
  • Green tea

Next step is a long due visit at the doctors office for a general checkup, to get some baseline values for cholesterol, bloodsugar, bloodpressure and whatever it is that doctors can find out from a few drops of blood, and to find out if some recent chestpains are serious or “just” sideeffects from some muscle backpains I’ve developed lately (or if it’s the other way around)

After the go from my doctor I’ll slowly put some excercise into the plan, because as it is now I can’t even take a full gulp of air without having my back cramp up.

Body Challenge - Round 2

Are you ready for Body Challenge, round 2?

Starting….now. Ready?

Because having a deadline helps with motivation and results, this challenge will also be 12 weeks. The final day of the challenge will be June 24th.

Just as before, each challenger sets his or her own personal goals. It doesn’t strictly have to be related to weight loss just whatever health challenge you personally would like to dedicate yourself to. You may use any diet and health regimen that works for you. As always one should consult trained professionals i.e. doctors, personal trainers for advice specific to your needs.

Okay guys let’s get this show back on the road!

Who’s the Top Challenger?

This has been a great challenge! It’s been great to pursue individual goals and blog about it with others. I know I’ve been much more dedicated that I ever would have been alone. So thank you!

With this challenge we’ve not really competing with each other - rather we’ve supported one another so that we could all reach our goals. But I thought I would recognize one person who’s shown great dedication to the challenge and managed to lose the most weight in the process…

Lynn Terry :)

Thank you for all of your inspirational posts, comments and great healthy living ideas.

And congratulations for being named the “Top Challenger!”

Final Results

Starting Weight: 149
Goal: 125
Week 12: 142.5 (-.5 pound)
Total Lost: 6.5 pounds

Over the course of this 12 week challenge I lost 6.5 pounds, less than what I’d hoped but I’m proud of my progress so far.  What has really helped me in the past few weeks is going to group exercise classes and personal training. I push myself a lot harder when I’m working out with others.  This is something I will continue in order to keep losing, and eventually get down to my goal weight.
