Total Weight Loss to Date: 1.6 KGs (3.52 lbs)

Although I went to gym 5 times this week, the odd mid-week beer and dining out twice, pushed the weight up slightly :|

I will say, though… I feel fitter than I have felt in a long time… possibly even in the past 3 years. I’m finding that going to gym now isn’t all that difficult. I guess it’s that consistently thing kicking in, and transforming what used to be forced, now into a simple automatic habit.

I don’t think it’s really going to be all that difficult to continue the 4-5 times per week at gym for the rest of the year…

If that’s what happens, I’ll certainly reach my goal of 72KGs ;-)

Dining Out

My husband and I like to dine out quite a bit. Maybe because we like to eat or just because we’re lazy and don’t like to cook. Or a little of both. (Hey I did my spring cleaning on the kitchen Saturday and it’s spotless. Why mess up a good clean kitchen? LOL!)

I will admit that we went to CiCi’s pizza buffet last weekend. And it was great! No I wasn’t a diet angel, who can be at a buffet?

But since this challenge started I’ve been more selective about my choices when dining out. The best strategy is to choose a place that has a lot of healthy selections so it’s easier to make healthy choices. This puts the odds in my favor!

While I’m not a big fan of Subway, sandwich shops and delis usually have good choices. Yesterday after Yoga I stopped by Schlotzsky’s and picked up some sandwiches. There’s several small sandwiches that are less than 400 calories each. And they taste good (especially with thier hot sauce). ;)

Sticking to it!

I just returned from Circuit Aerobics class, and boy - she really gave it to us good tonight! I went last night as well, and I feel good about starting the week out sticking to my goals!

I am doing okay with the water - consistent at least. You’ll remember that my goal was 48oz/day. But I am only drinking about 24oz a day (some days a little more) at the moment. Something for me to keep working on.

I’ve also started visits to the tanning bed. That’s a bit of a hassle because you have to get dressed, get out of the house (haha), then you go for a few minutes and come back home. Just seems like a hassle to me because I dont leave the house much I guess ;) . Anyway, I’m doing 5 minutes each morning, which I’ve also been sticking with.

Because let’s face it - FAT looks better when it’s browned! :p Even on a piece of raw chicken! LOL

I feel like I am making great progress, just creating new habits and sticking to it all. The scales still havent moved again, so I am at 13 pounds lost for my total.

It’s Friday Again

What a wonderful week this has been. Warm weather has made it easy to get out and walk. I lost one more pound this week to make a total of 6 pounds and in addition to the weight loss, I am really starting to feel the other benefits that come from exercising.

Getting Over the Flu

Today I’m finally starting to feel like myself again after a week of having the flu.  I’d been coughing so much that my voice was terribly scratchy.   For some reason the over the counter stuff, even Nyquil doesn’t do it for me.  Well yesterday I went to the doctor and got some powerful cough medicine and slept soundly most of the night.

I think tomorrow I’ll be well enough to get back to the gym. Yea! :)

Phew! :|

I’ve missed two weeks of weigh-ins, but worse still, two weeks of gym and exercises… unless you can count drinking beer as an arm exercise LOL! ;)

As mentioned in Week 6, I was forced {GRIN} to over indulge (when I consumed 500 MILLION calories). Well… if that wasn’t enough, I went a little crazy at SES New York last week {GRIN}.

… and it doesn’t end there! This week I turned 33, and Anita went and got me a freakin Thorntons chocolate cake :|

Although I went to gym four times this week (see, back on track), I was absolutely convinced that I was gonna be way up on the weight… right back into the 80s where I started.

Well… I actually LOST weight!

Man, I’ve got one crazy body!

Circuit Aerobics!

I mentioned in my last two posts that I was having a hard time getting back into my workout routine… well, I managed to work out two days in a row after that - and then my lower back went out on me.

Ouch! It’s actually an old injury (no - not football LOL) that just ‘gets me’ from time to time. So I spent about six days hardly moving at all. I couldnt lift a gallon of milk, much less work out :-p What a wimp, huh? haha

With that past me, I decided to join in on the local Circuit Aerobics class. I started tonight, and I have to tell you - that was a great workout!!

It’s the same girl that taught the Cardio Kickboxing class that I loved so much last year, and she’s very easy to follow along with. It was a pretty full class, which was nice - and my 9yo daughter even went with me!

She always loves to work out with me at home, so I thought “Why not?” - right? I figured as long as I was paying for her to join in, and we took a spot in the back, nobody would really mind. I think she had fun ;-)

Anyway, my scales are still stuck on the same spot as last time I reported in - so 13 lbs total lost since the beginning of the challenge. I am sticking to my “diet” of eating less, eating better… and cutting out all of the junk snacking and take-out meals.

And my “new jeans”… are just a little bit looser than they were a couple of weeks ago :-)

This has been really fun so far. I appreciate you, Sandra, for taking the initiative and putting this together - and for everyone that joined in. I’ve enjoyed following along with the individual challenges that everyone has!

Just having a group to work alongside has been really motivating, and once I got on a roll with the “look better, feel better” routine, I found myself making changes in other areas as well. For example I’ve had my hair done (styled & lightened), started tanning bed visits (great for clearing up “winter skin” and getting a little color!), and have been trying out the BodyShape toning lotion by Hydroderm (which is supposed to smooth out those little “mommy spots” - or dimply areas).

If I dont look ANY different at all physically (yet) – there is enough of a difference showing through in my smile and attitude to make up for it! ;-)

The Scale - Love it or Hate It?

I both look forward to and dread the weekly weigh in’s. I try not to get onto the scale during the week and just focus on doing what I know is right and healthy.

Then the day comes for the weigh in. I stare down at the scale imagining the number I would like to appear. I make sure it’s properly set and step lightly onto the surface, crossing my fingers it will tell me what I want to hear.

This week the scale stayed at 143, same as last week. That’s a total of 6 pounds lost so far over the challenge.

But eventhough the dial did not change I am still encouraged because I know the scale is just one external measurement. I celebrate the healthy habits that I continued this week and look toward the larger goals of health, fitness and eventual fat loss.

This article from the eDiets newsletter which came today was perfect timing:

The healthiest method to gauge your progress is weighing yourself: MYTH — You think I’m about to say that the answer is to get frequent body fat tests, don’t you? Nope! The healthiest way to gauge your progress is to make sure your strength levels increase when performing resistance exercise, make sure your endurance improves through cardiovascular exercise and make sure that your clothes fit exactly the way you want them to. When did we stop trusting ourselves to the extent that everything has to be successful by a measurement? Don’t we have enough pressure in our lives?

From 15 Fitness Myths Exposed

I am still fighting off a cold so my exercise lately has been limited. I’m letting my body rest till I’m back up to my normal self before going back to the gym. Hopefully that will be soon, and my next weigh in will reflect the progress that I’ve been making. :)

Week 8 - Time Flies

I have been so busy, I didn’t realize we were already to week 8. I have been working nonstop for the past few weeks helping a friend remodel a building he will be moving his pet grooming business into. Unfortunately, helping him has been all the exercise I have had lately.

I read through the posts here and everyone seems to be doing really well. I have lost 5 pounds since the challenge started. I intend to get back on the exercise track because my daughter just got engaged and will be getting married in November. I would really like for my mother of bride dress to be a size smaller than I wear now. :)

Counting Calories

This week I have been very dedicated to watching my diet by monitoring portion sizes and counting calories. I use a small spiral notebook to keep track of the foods I’m eating and the approximate calorie count.

This is much easier to do when you’re eating at home and not going out to eat too much. Though most fast food restaurants have nutrition information online now. Sometimes I will look this up before going out and it helps in making the smartest choices. This week I only went out twice - to Schlotsky’s Deli (got the light Turkey sandwich) and once to Sonic (breakfast toaster - not as good a choice but still within my calorie limit for the day).

Today I will not be quite as concerned about this because unfortunatly I caught a cold. :( I’ll be drinking lots of juice and my favorite cold remedy - orange hot tea with honey! Hopefully this will pass pretty quickly.
