Kicking off the Body Challenge

Well… here we are. State my goals, right?
To be frank, I dont like the way I look. I am not in shape either, so I can add that I also dont like the way I feel. I have put on about 40lbs in the last couple of years, and I am absolutely fed up with the extra weight!
I put the weight on while I was taking care of my 93yo Grandmother full time, so I have no regrets about it… but now that I am on my own again, and have the time and energy, it is high time for me to focus on my health and work on my appearance.
My goal for the next 12 weeks is to lose 30 lbs. That’s an easy 10lbs a month - and I feel confident that I can do it. In fact, in November I lost 8 lbs rather quickly just making a few small changes in my daily routine… but I ‘fell off the wagon’ over the holidays.
My habits at this point are so horrendous that even small changes are bound to make a huge impact. What I did in November was simple: I quit smoking, quit drinking Pepsi, started drinking water, and worked out 20-30 minutes a day.
My plan for the next 12 weeks is to do that again - and this time to stick with it. I would also like to start eating better… and actually learn to cook more healthy foods. Growing up in the south, everything is deep fried and smothered in gravy. I hate to admit this, but I hardly even know my way around the produce section at the grocery store (laugh). This should be fun!
Thanks goes out to Sandra for putting this challenge into motion - and to all of the other participants. It’s much easier to take action on these goals when you have a group of friends to work alongside!
p.s. Please, please, please post your favorite healthy recipes, or give me links to your favorite recipe sites for easy healthy stuff!
Congrats on quitting smoking, Lynn! I’m sure that must be hard. You doing it cold-turkey?
I can totally relate to your deep fried southern upbringing. Our family tradition is to even have a big breakfast on Christmas day with biscuits and sausage gravy. Then the turkey, etc for lunch. This year I managened to limit myself to one biscuit. Oh, the sacrifice. ha!
Funny…there’s lots of similarities growing up in New England, at least in western Massachusetts. I just loved those mashed potatoes and gravy, baked macaroni and cheese, homemade baked beans, etc. Worse still, I’m of German heritage on BOTH sides of the family, i.e., lotsa baked goodies, noodles and such. Ooooof!! I should be two yards wide…
Cold Turkey? No way! LOL I’m using the patch
I am really struggling to get on a roll here. I’ve been so busy with work this week that I havent worked out even one time yet. To make matters worse, I have just been snacking while working instead of eating decent meals.
*sigh* - I need to get my butt on a solid routine!
